NORTHWEST BOMBERS
EVALUATIONS

STANDARDIZED TESTING

Height, Weight, & Bat/Throw:  To establish height, athletes are measured by tape with both heels firmly secured on the floor. Recorded distance is from the floor to the crown of the head, recorded to the nearest half inch. Weight is measured with shoes by digital scale (this measurement is primarily for use with our instruments)

Group Injury and Mobility Screening: Players will be moved through a dynamic warm-up intended to wake-up the neuromuscular system as well as identify any inconsistencies or limitations in shoulder and hip mobility. This is an opportunity to engage athletes with several pre-hab and re-hab strategies that they can employ as they continue their career to maximize performance and limit injury.

60 Yard Dash : Starting in a steal start position a sprint covering 60 yards (54.86 m). It is primarily run to evaluate the speed and acceleration of American Major League Baseball players.

Cone Shuttle Run: This drill is a 5-10-5 Pro Agility Shuttle used by various National Team Recruiting Combines and Performance Camps. In this drill, athletes will complete 2 directional turns over the distance of a standard court width. The timer begins the “clock” when the athlete lifts her hand from the tape line and stops the clock when they cross over the line after touching both sidelines. Better of 3 attempts is scored, test is laser timed.

Throwing Velocity (MPH): The Stalker Pro ll will be used to track the velocity of each pitch thrown during the bullpen session.

TECHNICAL SKILL EVALUATION

Bull Pens - Players will be asked to pitch about 40 pitches. Pitches will be thrown from both the windup and stretch. After 20 pitches the athlete will break for a “half inning,” and resume the bullpen after the next athlete throws their 20 pitches. The second “inning will be comprised of combo pitches from the stretch along with two live batters. Ball speed will be measured in MPH by Doppler Radar to the tenth of a mph.

Overall Strike Percentage – Pitchers will be graded on their overall strike percentage, or the amount of strikes thrown compared to the amount of pitches. A higher strike percentage shows the ability to command the baseball in the strike zone.

Demeanor – Athletes will also be graded on their body language through the entire process. Poor body language shows you have been defeated and will not be tolerated in the Northwest Baseball Program.
